Historic Neighborhood Guidance

Historic Neighborhood Guidance

Living in the historic Old North End Neighborhood has many advantages beyond the beautiful homes, tree-lined streets, and close proximity to the downtown area, Colorado College and Monument Valley Park to name a few. Neighbors also enjoy increased property values. In addition, properties within either of the two historic districts, as outlined below, qualify for tax credits, another financial benefit.

These five links will take you to specific information regarding key areas of interest to achieve a variety of benefits and any necessary guidance.

  1. National Register Historic District Information – This page provides an overview of the National Register of Historic Places, includes a map showing the properties within the Old North End and Weber/Wahsatch national register historic districts, and gives detailed information for each in the Historic District Nomination Forms and Photos.
  2.  Tax Credit Information – Property within either the Old North End or North Weber/Wahsatch national register historic districts qualify for tax credits. All information needed to apply for these credits are outlined on this page.
  3. If your house is located within one of these Sub Areas and you intend to make changes to the outside of the structure for which a building permit is required, your proposal must be reviewed by the City’s Historic Preservation Board. Information regarding the permitting and review process is included. Contact information is also provided.
